Don't be put off by the outside, the inside is super clean & well kept, the so advertised "almost famous" beef vegetable soup is super delicious and the the steaks are really good! Probably the best choice in the area for a reasonably nice dinner out!

Went here for lunch after taking a tour at Mammoth Cave over July 4th weekend. It was one of the few places open on the holiday. They call themselves a steakhouse, but it feels more like a family-owned small restaurant. Both the interior and exterior were kind of boring-looking. The food was ok, and to be honest, we weren't expecting much anyways, so we weren't really disappointed. Their lunches steaks are all pounded thin, and tend to either be over-cooked or under-cooked. My friend ordered a grilled cheese, and it was literally just some toasted bread with two slices of cheese in the middle. I think the best part of the meal was the salad bar and soup, because let's be real here, you can't really mess up a salad bar. I'm also just a sucker for potato salad, so they get an A+ for having that ;) Despite the mediocre food, our server was very friendly. I'm not sure that I'll eat here again, unless I'm not feeling fast food or there's nothing else open.

What a great place. Vary clean. The soup was out of this world. Steak was cooked just right. Every thing in not drowned in grease and oil. Felt like we cooked it at home. ... we will be back at least 1 more time this trip

Though this is quite a hole in the wall restaurant, I can usually consider this as a hidden gem. The restaurant itself was clean, but the atmosphere is pretty good. The lunch menu was well-priced and served very well. During lunch time, I had the 6-ounce ribeye, and it was well-marinated and full of flavor. The dessert selection was exceptional, and one of them was the delicious peanut butter pie, which tastes great. I liked the friendly staff, and overall, it was a very good restaurant with plenty of driving distance east of the Interstate. I would be more than happy to come back here again.

I expected a little hole in the wall, considering the location. The atmosphere was indeed dated, but clean and in good repair. The seasoning on the steak was perfect! The cut itself was a little small, but we enjoyed it and would order again. Salad bar was tiny. Rolls weren't bad as others had mentioned, but not incredible. I had the burger, which was hearty and the Kentucky silk pie was amazing!! Staff was very friendly. Over all a great restaurant for the area, we would happily come back.

Classic American steak house. Prepare for a tasty experience if you go in with the right mind set.

After much debate we decided to try here. The salad bar was just that. A regular normal salad bar. Unfortunately, some of the reviews had lead us to believe that it was some of the best. We went on a Friday night so Prime Rib was the special. It's the only place I've ever been that has had "grilled" prime rib also the mushrooms & onions was mostly mushrooms & canned (not fresh). Prime rib was edible & tasted not overly salty as some reviewers had stated but also wasn't anything above average as one Columbus, OH review had mentioned on Trip Advisor. This is a dry restaurant (no alcohol). Atmosphere was that of a typical family homestyle restaurant (aka. not a romantic date place). Staff was friendly & attentive. Service was timely. We would highly recommend the dessert & the dinner rolls which were the highlight of the dinner. We only had room to try one (we would have felt bad leaving the prime rib as it was so pricey) so the Derby Pie & dinner rolls was the only reason I gave it 2. I would definitely consider coming back for dessert again, but that would be all. Meal was ok, but for the price we expected much better seasoned & just something was missing from it, not to mention fresh mushrooms from a "steak house" was kind of what I expected. Overall, I was glad we didn't go to a chain as that's most of the other restaurants around here. But is definitely not the "hidden gem" we were hoping it may possibly be.

While my hubby and i were camping at mammoth cave we decided on a nice dinner out, but had no idea where to go! We drove to cave city and asked a guy at the gas station what he would recommend. He suggested Sahara. So i hopped on yelp to see if there were any previous reviews! The salad bar hooked me. YUM. but the reviewers were right. The salad bar was oh so yummy but the dinner was not. I got the blackened salmon and my hubby got the chicken teriyaki. My salmon was SO SALTY! I came out almost looking like a patty. It was really weird. His chicken was moist but weird tasting. I also read from other reviewers that the salad bar that comes with the entree is one trip only. NOT TRUE!!! it is unlimited times. which made up for the disappointing dinner. Also the "almost famous" vegtable soup has beef in it so I guess it needs to be renamed " almost vegtable soup" but it was still good!

Reminds me more of a family restaurant than a steak house. Dinner was okay but would not go again as I have had better. Took a while for the server to get the drink order and once we received our food, we did not see them until the checks were brought to the table. Wife's baked potato was not cooked all the way.

Went here late on a Thursday and wanted to try something local near Mammoth Cave where we were visiting. There were still a good amount of people inside, so we figured it must be ok. I think all of them were locals. The entrees come with a trip to the salad bar, which was definitely the highlight of my meal and the only reason it gets 3 stars. I actually thought the salad bar was great- they had a huge variety of vegetables and salads, including more unusual items. The potato salad was delicious although I saw the Sams Club ish jar it came from. Their homemade veggie soup was also great and the rolls too. I asked the server for her recommendation between chicken tenders and chopped steak dinner and she recommended the chicken so I went with that. It was probably one of the worst entrees I have ever received at a restaurant and McDonald's Chicken Selects would have been better, but I enjoyed the time there. The chicken fingers were clearly from a frozen package and the breading was tough. I had ordered mushrooms and onions on the side, thinking it was going to be sauteed fresh veggies, and as it turns out, was canned mushrooms soaked in butter. Tasted like chemicals. My boyfriend got the catfish which was good. I thought the prices were good, especialy compared to what we are used to in Chicago. The staff was friendly and it's an OK place to go, especially after a long day. I would try other places if in the area again, or just go for the salad bar.

We went to Mammoth Cave National Park. We stayed in Cave City, KY. I was thinking that it would be good to have Steak. So we went there for dinner.... The waitress told us, they cut the steak by themselves. I thought Steak will be good idea. Well.... We thought they might went to kill the cow in the backyard. We were waiting for more than 35 mins. My husband's water cup was empty for 20 mins, the waitress did not come to refill it. In the end we got our meals. My husband's burger came to the table... "COLD". I had 10oz Rib-eye, my steak came to the table "Warm" but not hot and was well-done not medium. When waitress asked me how was my steak, I told her the truth. She was rolling her eyes and said she would take it back. I did not want to wait another 35 mins. I told her forget about it. In the other hand, we had ordered a bake potato with everything. It came out with butter and one very small sour cream. Are you serious? Bake Potato with everything typically has butter, sour cream, bacon bites and chives, and sometimes cheese.

Sahara was a tale of two courses. The first course was a fantastic salad bar (how do you mess up a salad bar) with rare ingredients that I cannot even identify. I enjoyed the salad very much. The dressing ladles were mis-labeled which made things a little interesting, but also fun. The main course is where things went downhill. I ordered the fried catfish, which was served on a bed of lettuce. It was just OK. I also tried the chicken fingers, which were most likely deep fried rubber chickens. The prices were fair and the service was good.

Barely passable steak house, I'll never return to. We were there on a mini vacation to Mamoth Cave and wanted to try the local fair. DON'T DO IT! Stick with Cracker Barrel and be pleasantly unsurprised. The place was busy on a Saturday night (not unusual one would think) It took us 2 hours to get our steaks! and my baked potato still wasn't ready so we had to wait on that. They thinned down the blue cheese dressing (shame on them) The pecan pie looked & tasted like it was purchased frozen from IGA. Only reason why it gets 2 stars is the steak was actually good.

Made a trip here after driving all day from Florida. I asked at the front desk of the hotel for a local recommendation since I prefer to eat local places if possible when we travel. I would have been happier with one of the chains. The Sahara burger is a joke. I think it might have been 1/16 of a pound. If you know how to operate a backyard grill you can do better. My son got a steak medium rare. I swear it moo -ed when he poked it with a fork. My wifes fries came out in the form of onion rings. Uggh. Do yourself a favor and skip it.

We decided to stay in Cave City after a trip to Mammoth Cave. We didn't really know what to expect, but I think we would have made the drive to Bowling Green if we did. Cave City is kind of rough. The only thing it has to offer are a dozen or so run down tourist traps. Starving after making the drive from STL and seeing the cave with our 3 year old, we checked into the hotel and asked about a good place to eat in the area. The girl at the front desk really didn't have any recommendations, so we went to yelp and google. This is what we settled on. We were the only people in the restaurant the entire time we ate. (We got there around 8pm on a Wednesday). Niether my husband nor I could bring ourselves to attempt a steak, so I just had the soup and salad bar and he got a burger with the salad bar. Everything on the salad bar was pretty basic; iceberg lettuce, one type of cheese, rach dressing, etc. The tomatoes looked pretty gross. (See through tomatoes should never make it on any plate in any restaurant) Regardless, it was a fine enough salad. The soup was ok. My husband's burger was pretty good, but a little small and the fries were frozen crinkle cut, not steak fries. Service was ok, our server was sweet. Check came up to about 25 dollars with our two iced teas, a little high for what we had. To sum it up, don't stay in Cave City. But if you must and you don't want fast food, this seems to be the only decent place to go.

Not quite the steakhouse you think of when you think of steak. More of a family restaurant that focuses on steaks. Overall the experience was good but I've had better steaks at home.

This review is really 3.5 starts, but I can't do a half star. This is definitely a local stake house so if you are expecting Smith and Wollinsky or Morton's; go somewhere else. If you are looking for a decent steak at tourist (high) prices, this is the place to go. My wife and I went there after a tiriing day at Mammoth Cave and both had the prime rib which comes with one free trip to the salad bar. After a day of camp food, any fresh veggies were a gift from above. Additionally, their beef vegetable soup was almost as good as homemade. The steaks were decent, but nothing to write home about.

I agree with John here. Tourist prices. Evidently prime rib was the best on the menu because that's what we had! Pretty good I thought. It was about the best thing we saw around. As hungry as we were at that time, saltines would have probably sufficed. I would eat there again if back in the area.
